Project Wingback Update

Ello ello!
I've been traveling the southwest for a few weeks but now I am back and ready to finish this chair! Luckily, on my travels I found the perfect fabric at Home Fabrics & Rugs! That store is AMAZING, good quality fabric at super affordable prices! I found my fabric (outdoor upholstery polyester) for $10/yd, what a deal!!! I purchased 4 yards, because most wingback chairs need around 3-5 yards for the entire chair.
Fabric $43.50

I'm not sure if the background on this blog influenced my fabric choice or not, but either way I am happy with the fabric choice and the chair is starting to look good! I will have it finished and have pictures up by the end of this week!

SIDE PROJECT
As an ADD designer, I am always starting new projects. Sometimes I even figure out design problems in my sleep! (That's how I decided on staining the wood black for the chair.) But yesterday I woke up with 2 hours to buy or make a present for a 2 year old to bring to her birthday. Digging through my stash of fabric I found some cute cherry print/ bows ect. but decided on an old dollie I bought from a thrift store many moons ago. I shredded and threaded that beezy, lined it with a cute pink cotton fabric, added some sequined flowers and pow! It's cute....right? I tend to make things a little too grandma-esk...I'm an old soul I guess but...I think I might have to make one for myself now......

Project Wingback

This week has been a disappointment, and I still have yet to find a job! But this has allowed me more time to spend on Project Wingback. Here is an update! First things first, I just ripped off all the old upholstery. I have never done this before, and had never realized how many damn staples can be in one chair! But with a lot of ripping and a pair of pliers(and some beer) I managed to strip the baby.

I began sketching different patterns to use for the upholstery and what color I wanted to stain the wood. I was torn between a rustic white look, all black, or a dark redwood stain.

I ended up deciding on a modern look that would fit my style. I wanted black wood with white and black stripes. I liked the bigger stripes on the red and white chair I sketched. So the next step was to find some fabric. But apparently Albuquerque New Mexico is severely lacking the the fabric department! Once you go Britex you never go back! In the meantime of waiting for some fabric swatches to come in the mail.....I sanded the wood a bit with 220 grit sandpaper and bought some black wood stain from Walmart.

Until next time.....

Here's a completely random video that helps me get inspired and keeps me doing what i love to do! Anything is possible, don't wait until tomorrow, do it today!

starving designer

I graduated exactly a month ago. This last month has been intensely active. I have moved 1000 miles, quit my job, left my family, and now am a starving designer looking for work in any corner I can. That corner happens to be Albuquerque, New Mexico. A mystical place of cotton candy skies, watermelon mountains and green chile rivers(on your burritos). But it's soooo damn hot out here!

But now that I am moved in, the storm has passed, and the commotion has settled, I seem to have A LOT of free time. I have begun a million projects. The first of which I have finished is our dining room table!

I just bought two 2" X 6" x 10' s from Home Depot and had them cut in half. Then I stained the wood, to  look like a beautiful red oak. I then used a 2 x 2 to secure all the planks together underneath, added the Hairpin legs and voilĂ !
Wood + Stain = $19.08
Hairpin Legs = $99.00

The next project is.....a free chair I found on Craigslist!!

Happy Tuesday!!!
